4 wearable LED products that are cool and functional

By Bill 2 years ago 3748 Views No comments

When it comes to lighting the night, nothing surpasses LED light for its high visibility. Whether you’re trail running, biking on a busy road, changing a flat tire, or even doing yard work after the sun goes down, LED accessories bring you the extra visibility you need for personal safety, or the extra light you need to get the job done.

There are many different types of wearable LED accessories available, including a wide range of Mace Brand® Nite Beams™ wearable LED products. Is LED apparel right for you? Let’s take a look at some options.

  • Arm and leg bands. Ideal for runners and bicyclists, LED arm and leg bands alert passing motorists that they’re sharing the road with someone. Visible from up to a quarter-mile away, these bands allow motorists to spot you with ample time to steer clear. Nite Beams LED arm and leg bands are adjustable, washable and water-resistant, and come in several different LED colors. Each band also has constant-burn and flashing modes so you can adjust the type of light you’re giving off.
  • Ball caps. Need a hands-free way to light up an area in front of you? LED ball caps provide the ideal solution with built-in LED lights. Nite Beams ball caps have four green and white LED lights on the bill and a pair of red lights on the rear, letting those nearby see where you are looking or where you are headed. Great for trail running or lighting a work area – such as when you’re changing a flat tire on a dark road – the Nite Beams line also includes a knit skullcap for cold weather.
  • Vests. Wearable LED vests can increase productivity when working in a low-light area. Instead of stopping work until daylight hours, simply strap on an LED-equipped safety vest to increase your visibility in construction zones, on roadsides or other locations. Outfitted with flashing LED lights and reflective material, Nite Beams vests are also approved for on-the-job use by the American National Standards Institute.
  • Shoelaces. Whether you are running after dark or have kids who play outside at night, LED shoelaces are a safe – and fun – option for LED safety wear. Nite Beams LED laces have three lighting settings – constant burn, slow flash and fast flash – and are water resistant. They’re available in different lengths for kids and adults.

Your beach safety checklist: 4 items to always keep in your beach bag

By Eric 2 years ago 2346 Views No comments

Summertime is beach time, as millions of Americans head to the shore for sun and fun. But even while you’re enjoying a relaxing trip to the beach, you need to be prepared for the unexpected.

Keep these items in your beach bag to complete your beach safety checklist.

  • Pepper spray. Many beaches are public places. That means you don’t know who — or what — you might run into, and you may not be familiar with the area. How can you deter people looking for trouble? One way is to bring a friend or family member to the beach with you. Another strategy is to get in the habit of packing pepper spray. Don’t forget: Keep your pepper spray canister out of direct sunlight to avoid overheating and potential leakage.
  • First aid kit. A good first aid kit should include disinfectant and bandages for minor cuts and scrapes, moleskin patches for blisters, self-cooling ice packs, cloth bandages for sprains, and lotions to treat jellyfish stings and sunburns. If you’re heading to beach that’s in a remote location or doesn’t have a lifeguard, it’s even more important to have these items with you, as it could take longer for first responders to arrive.
  • Cell phone. Sand and water don’t mix well with cell phones, so many beachgoers don’t want to take one with them. But it’s important to have a fully charged cell phone with you in case of emergency. You can always dial 911, but programming local emergency numbers into your phone can give you another way to reach help.

  • Emergency items. If your waterfront adventure takes you to a really remote lake or beach, you’ll need other items that could come in handy if you get lost or stranded. These include a GPS unit that can signals your location to emergency responders.

Other emergency items to consider are an emergency blanket to keep you warm in the event of cold temperatures or injury shock, waterproof matches to start campfires, water-purification tablets for drinking and cooking, and bear spray – in case you encounter aggressive wildlife.

With the right amount of preparation, you can enjoy your summer excursion to the beach and be prepared for an emergency.
